Your First Visit

A Letter to Our Patients

Prenatal care may require one or more, sometimes many, visits to NTPA. Your checkups are very important. Our doctors may be able to find problems that you may not even be aware of. The earlier any problems with your pregnancy are found, the better it is for you and your baby.

Expect your first perinatal visit to be quite detailed. You will be asked many questions, and you will undoubtedly have many of your own.

Future perinatal visits will probably be much shorter.

Your first perinatal visit will also be quite comprehensive. Expect our doctors and staff to ask you about:

  • Your medical history
  • Your family`s medical history
  • Your reproductive history
  • Your lifestyle habits
  • Your work
  • Medications you are taking
  • Your last menstrual period or expected date of delivery (EDD)

Be sure to tell our doctors and staff everything about your medical history. They will ask you standard questions. Every pregnant woman is asked the same questions. Our doctors and staff want to give you and your baby the best care possible. Tell them everything. Even little things that do not seem important can help them make better medical assessments and recommendations. The more they know, the better they can care for you and your baby.

Our doctors and staff will answer your questions and may make recommendations regarding nutrition and vitamins, exercise, medication, sexual activity, and any lifestyle changes they believe advisable. They may advise you about a high risk condition, suggest further testing, or make referrals to other subspecialists to help with your care. In all stages of your care, remember that your primary Ob/Gyn physician remains “captain of the ship.” He or she will be advised of any findings and recommendations and will have the final say regarding your plan of care.
